the Quantified Relationship, 2017

This mock journal cover was created to accompany an article entitled "The Quantified Relationship" (Danaher, Nyholm, & Earp, 2018) in the American Journal of Bioethics. The article details the ethical implications of digital tracking and gamification of romantic relationships. To express the concept of a human attempting to find romantic fulfillment in an incongruously virtual space, I illustrated a painterly, organic woman on a date in a highly pixelated, digital environment. My head was full of Leyendecker and McMein illustrations of Fashion Women In Interesting Clothes. My aim was to depict ambivalence about the first date, the environment, and the ethics of it all.
