Tiny Beasts of the Great Lakes, 2017
3ds Max & Photoshop
This piece was created to make visible something extremely tiny and difficult to see: plankton! Daphnia pulicaria and Bythotrephes longimanus are two species that live in the Great Lakes; the latter is an invasive predator that interferes with native populations and fishing lines. I performed in-depth research on the plankton, pun intended, to ensure that they were both likely to be found in the same geographical area and the interaction between them was realistic, and then I modeled and rendered them in 3ds Max and composited them using Photoshop. Enjoy this rare up-close glimpse of two strange, beautiful beasts!
